The Sandy Award

By MICK HOLIEN

I had already put pen to paper to compose this Monday program thinking I would be a day ahead of time and not need to brainstorm a story idea over the weekend.

But as I have told several people who asked if I haven’t written the next day’s program and I am talking to you well there’s a good chance you are tomorrow’s program.

And that was the case Friday night when I went to a good bye party for a very special Polson person who certainly will be missed till we convince her to come back home.

I won’t keep you in suspense any longer – I am talking about Sandy Farrell.

We all know that there are people who say they’ll do something or say they are interested in a project but when the rubber meets the proverbial road well it just doesn’t happen always for one reason or another.

The Missoula area chamber has what they call the annual George award, I believe in honor of George Caras and is awarded to that person that didn’t let George do it – rather never finding “a reason to not get involved and rather being motivated to make the community a better place.

Well what a fine suggestion for Polson – to name such an honor “the Sandy Award.

mODEST AS SHE IS SHE’LL TELL YOU SHE IS UNDESERVING BUT LET ME JUST TELL YOU A BIT ABOUT HOW SHE GETS INVOLVED IN THINGS AND BASICALLY IN MANY INSTANCES JUST DOES IT HERSELF..YOU KNOW IF YOU WANT SOMETHING DONE…..

iF THERE’S A PHONE TREE TO BE ORGANIZED YOU’LL FIND HER NOT ONLY MAKING PHONE CALL BUT KNOCKING ON DOORS FOR HER CANDIDATES.

tHE SOUP KITCHEN SOUPS ON WOULD NOT EXIST NOR WOULD THE FREE fRIDAY NIGHT DINNERS WERE IT NOT FOR sANDY AND IN FACT i AM CONCERNED ENOUGH PEOPLE WILL STEP UP TO KEEP IT GOING.

eVEN AFTER HER PARTY WHO WAS SWEEPING THE FLOOR ETC – RIGHT sANDY.

pASTOR jOHN’S Journey B CHURCH CERTAINLY WOULD BE HARD PRESSED TO EXIKST WERE IT NOT FOR HER AND IN A ROOM IN THE FRONT SHE DECIDED TO FIRST HAVE A BOOK STORE, THEN FURNITURE AND HWO KNOWS WHAT ELSE.

gET A PERSON BACK ON THEIR FEET OR ADOPT A WAYWARD SOUL – THAT ALSO IS SANDY.

tHERE’S SO MUCH MORE i COULD TELL YOU BUT SUFFICE IT FOR ME TO SAY – tHE COMMUNITY DESERVES A sANDY aWARD

JUST SAY’N’
