A Pickup Man?

By Mick Holien

It is hard for me to believe that I would misidentify a man who has a month named after him but it is Dean August not Alexander, the former Cat play-by-play man, who schedules our music.

It was bound to occur but that sure does not mean it was easy.

Really it is not that big of a thing right? Everybody has to eventually admit it is time.

And right to the point of signing on the dotted line I was still unsure and had I waited through the weekend I might have either further delayed the decision or completely opted out.

Finance Manager May might have put it in perspective before I came into her office when she told people “That must not be the Mick Holien I know who is looking to buy an SUV.”

But alas with a Hemi lease close to the end of its two-year term, I made the move to something considerably smaller – for obvious reasons you will have to see it – slower but tricked out and what I can only described as, even though the previous owner disagrees, either Texas Orange or copper.

The color of course hold special significance for “In My Opinion” because Jack Swarthout brought the color when he came to Montana from Longhorn Country where he was coaching under Darrel Royal in 1967

Not only did he post a pair of undefeated regular seasons and Camellia Bowl appearances but the Grizzlies won an inaugural D-1AA National Championship in 1995 wearing what they now describe as “throwbacks.”

But there’s a variety of reasons, best contributed by the lyrics of Jor Diffie, why a guy making the switch away from a pickup is a difficult decision.

A survey in Beef Magazie from Yahoo.com indicates an attractive man (oops) driving a black Ford pickup is favored by about a third of you gals, slightly ahead of sports cars and twice that of SUVs.

Testing the validity of the survey 4percent like a UPS truck and another 1 percent favor mail trucks.

Because after all “you can set my truck on fire and roll it down a hill and I still wouldn’t trade it for a Coupe DeVille … There’s just something women like about a Pickup man.”
