DALLAS (AP) _ If you‘re booked on American Airlines, you‘d
better call ahead. The airline is expected to ground more of its
flights Wednesday as it tries to comply with federal rules on
wiring inspections. Airline officials are apologizing and trying to
help passengers catch other flights.

CAPITOL HILL (AP) _ A number of senators tried, but they
couldn‘t get the top U.S. commander in Iraq to offer an estimate of
when troop reductions might continue after this summer. Army
General David Petraeus (peh-TRAY‘-uhs) says things are improving
but warns there‘s still the threat of extremist violence
accelerating.

ELDORADO, Texas (AP) _ Court documents reveal that child welfare
officials feared the hundreds of children taken from a polygamist
compound in Texas were at risk of ``emotional, physical, and-or
sexual abuse.‘‘ Allegations from a 16-year-old triggered a raid
that‘s led to the state taking custody of 416 youngsters.

LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Police say a robbery attempt in a taxi turned
deadly in Los Angeles, but it was the two teenage suspects who were
killed. Police allege one of the girls slashed the driver‘s face
with a box cutter. He crashed and the pair was thrown from the cab.
The driver had minor injuries.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ The thrill of victory doesn‘t get old for the
Tennessee women‘s basketball team. The Lady Vols clinched an eighth
national championship by beating Stanford 64-48. An injured Candace
Parker, with 16 points, was named the Most Outstanding Player.
