CAPITOL HILL (AP) _ No promises are being made about any more
troop withdrawals from Iraq. General David Petraeus (peh-TRAY‘-uhs)
told Congress on Tuesday that the threat of extremist violence
ramping up again is so strong, he can‘t consider lightening the
force beyond this summer.

WASHINGTON (AP) _ A deputy attorney general in the Justice
Department is being asked to explain why her office hasn‘t
prosecuted any cases of sexual assault involving civilians working
for contractors in Iraq. After hearing complaints from several
women, the chairman of a Senate subcommittee has scheduled a
hearing on the matter.

DALLAS (AP) _ American Airlines is canceling hundreds more
flights as it undergoes additional inspections for wiring concerns
on some of its jets. An airline spokesman says several planes
checked Monday had work performed recently that failed to meet FAA
standards.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ The city of San Francisco is bracing for
massive protests against China during Wednesday‘s Olympic torch
relay through the city. The torch is under wraps in a secret
location until the event begins. Olympic officials are considering
scrapping the rest of the tour.

BALTIMORE (AP) _ Hybrid cars might be friendly to the
environment but not so for some pedestrians, especially blind
people. The cars are so quiet that legislation is being proposed to
require some kind of audible warning for those who can‘t see the
vehicles approaching.
